Okay. First off, let me preface this by saying that I am a big fan of NZ whites. I love steel casked wines.
Now that we've established that, let me introduce you to the wine I had tonight.
Los Vascos Chardonnay: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) 2004
This is a really fruit forward, crisp Chardonnay from Chile, that at my first sip - I thought for sure it was a Sauvignon Blanc from NZ. It's got a great balance of acid and fruit. Its not as "big" of a Chardonnay as some that I've tasted (Kim Crawford, for example...) but at $9.99 - it's a great summer white. Check it out, see what you think.

As a diabetic, I'm not supposed to consume alcohol because it can interfere with the small pharmacy that I consume nightly (if I remember).
Regardless, Mrs Gunner and I occasionally share a single glass, usually a house white zin -- because it seems to go with everything.
What ever happened to the lower alcohol wines that began to surface in the early 1980's? Are the still around? Seems like one of those might be a nice alternative to the wines with higher alcohol.

There are some lower alcohol content wines that are out there; although I don't know of any off the top of my head, I'll check it out for you on Monday - and will create a post with a few recommendations.

There is a new product from Beringer called "White Lies." Alcohol levels top off at about 9%. The low alcohol wines of the 80's may have had a lower alcohol level but there were also pretty tasteless.
Also, several of the Vinho Verdes from Portugual are very low in alcohol. I would highly recommend Casal Garcia.
